Ekiden (駅伝) is a Japanese term which generally refers to a long-distance relay running race, typically conducted on roads. An Ekiden Relay is commonly held over the marathon distance of 42.195km with teams of runners completing legs of varying distance.

'When the mirror bird sings' performance

The reception classes will each be going to ‘’When the mirror bird sings’’ performance which is located in a small hall next to the Town Hall on the Main Road, McLaren Vale. The performance is FREE as Dave (the Director) is wanting our feedback on the performance. The performance is about a modern fairy-tale for children aged 4-8 and uses visual theatre, movement, dance and audience participation.

Room 6 will be going on Monday 5th November from 1:15-2:15 (Week 4)

Room 7 will be going on Thursday 15th November from 1:15-2:15 (Week 5)

Room 8 will be going on Thursday the 22nd November from 1:15- 2:15 (Week 6)

Reception Excursion

On Thursday 6th December 2018 (Week 8) as an end of year celebration, the Reception students are going on an excursion to Port Willunga beach and the Port Noarlunga Wooden Adventure Playground. We will be leaving school at 9.15am sharp on a bus and returning to school by 3.00pm. Whilst at the beach students will be able to play on the sand but will not be going into the water.

Excursion, Rooms 10, 11 & 12

On Tuesday 11th December Rooms 10, 11 and 12 will be holding our end of year excursion at Urimbirra Wildlife Park and having lunch at the beachside playground in Victor Harbor.

We depart school at 9.20am, aiming to enter Urimbirra at 9.50am where we will have a snack / fruit and then enjoy time looking at the animals. We will leave the park at 12.15pm and continue on to Victor Harbor where we will have lunch at Warland Reserve playground (the playground next to where the horse drawn trams depart for Granite Island). We will leave the playground at approximately 1.45pm so that we return to school by 2.30pm.

Volunteer & RAN training

McLaren Vale Primary School welcomes parent involvement and volunteers.  There are many opportunities for volunteers to support programs at our school.

Your support is greatly appreciated and provides an excellent opportunity for parents to get to know other children and families within our school community.

Volunteers can:

  • help children with their reading and numeracy

  • assist in the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden program

  • help with camps and excursions

  • join our Governing Council

  • help in the school library

  • help with fundraising

9 - 10am       - Volunteer Training

10 - 12noon  - Reporting Abuse & Neglect (RAN)

Morialta Excursion - Receptions

All Reception classes will be going on an excursion to Morialta Conservation Park.

While we are at Morialta we will be exploring the grounds, building cubbies, watching the native wildlife, exploring the creeks and having fun on the playground! We will be practicing taking risks, building resilience and problem solving through the natural playgrounds. There are rock walls, ropes, slides and balancing stones.

Growth & Development Family Info night

As part of the Health and Physical Education Curriculum all Year 5/6/7 students have the opportunity to participate in the Growth and Development program in Term 3 this year.

This program is offered every year at the school by Kidz Biz Education.  All workshops cover core social, personal and sexuality development education in accordance with The Australian Curriculum: Health & Physical Education and the Keeping Safe: Child Protection Curriculum.

An information session for parents has been organised for Thursday 2.8.18 at 6:40pm in the library. The session goes for approximately 1 hour. This is a great opportunity to hear and see what students will be covering in these sessions.
