Performing Arts

McLaren Vale Primary School has a strong music and drama program provided through a specialist teacher program. Students access one lesson of music or drama per week throughout the year.

Junior primary students are provided with music lessons that not only offer the opportunity for group work, musical reflection and performance skills, but also a program that further develops their phonological awareness.

Our middle and upper primary students are provided with the opportunity to use a variety of musical instruments. These include percussion, bucket drums, boomwhakers, recorders, ukulele and computers for digital music.

The school participates in the Festival of Music and has a large choir with students ranging from year 4 to year 6. We also have a home learning recorder program and a lunchtime Toot and Dood band which offers students a progressive instrument if they have shown skill and dedication to learning a recorder.

The drama program offered is specifically planned to build and develop the skills in a progressive manner from reception through to year 7. Students are provided with various activities that are age appropriate and develop their confidence and cooperation through skills based games, voice activities, group work, play building and performance skills.

Students are also offered the opportunity to perform at school assemblies and concerts.
