Wellbeing

At McLaren Vale Primary School we believe that the relationships between our staff, students and parent and community groups is paramount to the success of our students academically, socially, physically and emotionally.

In 2016 we implemented Positive Education, based on the Geelong Grammar School model.

We have site wide consistency in managing student behaviour and we offer supportive and encouraging practices to assist our students to go beyond their potential.

All classes are introduced to the Child Protection Curriculum which teaches students in an age appropriate way to:

  • understand ways of keeping themselves safe
  • understand what is appropriate and inappropriate touching
  • recognise abuse and tell a trusted adult about this

Pastoral Care Support

Tyson Maddern works at McLaren Vale Primary on Mondays and Tuesdays during the school term as the Pastoral Care Worker.

Tyson works one-on-one with students to provide the support that they need, whether this is ongoing support, or something as simple as a chat. Tyson also runs extracurricular programs with groups of students who may need support in areas like social skills, grief and loss, and emotion regulation. The Pastoral Care Worker role consists of:

  • Role Modelling & Mentoring,
  • Social and Emotional Support,
  • Spiritual Support,
  • School Engagement,
  • Community Engagement, and
  • Extra-Curricular Contribution.

If you feel that you or your child would benefit from this kind of support, please contact the school office to organise a meeting.
